Cockatoo Creek brahmans was founded by Brad and Sharon Gitsham in 1996.The Gitsham Family has had a long history in the stud industry, with Brad's father ( the Late T.L Gitsham) founding the Rolling Hill's Santa Gertrudis stud in the 1960's this stud is still operational today by Ian Gitsham, Brad's brother.

 

Our first purchased heifers where Brahrock Heifers and later we purchased heifers from the Bauer Family's Greendale and Grampions stud, this gave us the opportunity to access the MR SALLUTO MANSO 229 Blood lines which we still use in the stud today.

 

We moved to 'Yarrawee' in March this year (2008) having bought and sold a few properties since we began in the stud business.

 

This year with the move to the new property we have been lucky enough to have a fodder shed which has given us the opportunity to feed the weaners and our sale bulls, we have found that the bulls and weaners have done extremely well on this feed, our weaners are also put on the Elders Livestock Management System which we have found to be of a great benefit. Also currently under construction are a new set of steel stock yards with under cover vet facilties.

 

We take approx 800kg's of green feed per day from the shed this will be used to fed our Bulls,Weaners and AI Heifers.

 

Our females are our focus here at Cockatoo Creek as we believe without a line of females you can not breed a line of bulls.

 

Apart from our AI heifers all cattle are naturally bred.
